The Mayor of Biggleswade and Councillor Collins of Central Bedfordshire Council joined Tritax Symmetry and Readie Construction for an official sod-cutting ceremony to mark the start of the latest phase of construction on site.

Tritax Symmetry has commenced work on the second phase of development at Symmetry Park, Biggleswade which is being delivered to net zero carbon in construction. Designed by AJA Architects, phase two comprises four units offering a total of 577,000 sq ft of high-quality logistics accommodation, ranging in size from 75,000 sq ft to 230,000 sq ft. The 112,000 sq ft Unit 05 is now committed to an occupier, with the remaining three units available on a leasehold basis with strong interest being shown from businesses across a range of sectors. Phase one comprising a 661,000 sq ft unit was pre-let to the Co-operative on a 20-year lease.

Speaking about the development, Tom Leeming development director at Tritax Symmetry, commented: “Symmetry Park Biggleswade is now delivering net zero carbon buildings for the undersupplied market of Central Bedfordshire. The considerable jobs and economic development generated at the site will benefit the wider area and post pandemic recovery. We are incredibly grateful to the support we have received from Central Bedfordshire to help bring this site forward.”

Councillor Kevin Collins, Executive Member for Planning & Regeneration, Central Bedfordshire Council, commented: “Biggleswade has become a well-established business location, thanks to its location close to the A1, offering quick access north and south. As a council, we look to work with ambitious developers who can bring forward highly sustainable schemes. We welcome the Co-operative to the area and look forward to seeing more businesses taking advantage of the available opportunities.”

The Mayor, Cllr. Russell, continued: “It was fantastic to be on site today and see the development of Symmetry Park firsthand. We strive to create employment opportunities for the people who live here and we look forward to attracting further inward investment and businesses to the area.”
