WATCH THIS SPACE FOR NEW DEVELOPMENT IN MANCHESTER'S NORTHERN QUARTER

Updated: Jul 24, 2020

Urban regeneration company Watch This Space has submitted a planning application for a new seven-storey mixed-use scheme on a former brownfield site in Manchester’s Northern Quarter area.

Salmon Street

Situated at 56-58 Salmon Street, the proposals would see the new building offering retail accommodation on the ground floor including a social area and a café for residents to use as well as bike facilities. On the upper floors, Watch This Space is planning to develop ten studio homes, together with an exclusive private residents’ roof terrace. The building would be developed on the car park area of the site. The existing 8,500 sq ft office building sat adjacent to the car park will remain as offices and is currently undergoing a refurbishment.

The planning submission comes after Watch This Space completed the off-market acquisition of the site for £850,000 in April last year.

Speaking about plans for the scheme, founder of Watch This Space, Michelle Rothwell, said: “We’re proud to be playing a part in the ongoing regeneration of this area of Manchester. Our proposed design has been created on the back of speaking to younger people to understand how they are living and working in the city and what they are looking for.

“Health and well-being is integral to the scheme. Facilities such as bike storage and the proposed large roof terrace are major attributes, but we believe it’s also what you do with the space that matters. We’re going to be using the terrace to help make the most of residents’ leisure time by putting on outdoor spin classes, having areas for residents to grow their own herbs for cooking and screening movies outdoors. It’s a real community-led approach to living and one that we are keen to promote in our city.”

If the planning application is successful Watch This Space will aim to start on site by the end of the year. The project team includes award winning Snook architects and planning consultants, Iceni Projects.
